Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). Can be grown mounted, or potted in a fast-draining media.
Comments: Encyclia ceratistes is found in damp oak forests in Central and northern South America. Growing at 1000-1500m (3500-5000 feet), it is a warm to intermediate grower and blooms generally during mid-summer in the Northern Hemisphere. A well-grown plant can carry as many as 200 fragrant flowers on a single branched inflorescence.
Parent plant: This is a seed-grown plant imported from Ecuador. Medium-sized plant.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Venezuela. In
Mexico, this orchid is found in Oaxaca and Chiapas where it grows in
rather wet oak and mixed hardwood forests at 3300-4900 ft. (1000-1500 m).
In Central America, collections have been reported in El Salvador at
3300-5100 ft. (1000-1550 m), in Honduras in the mountains west of
Tegucigalpa, and in Nicaragua near Boaco at 1100 ft. (330 m). In Panama,
plants are found in the province of Chiriquí at 4450-4950 ft. (1360-1510
m) and in Coclé Privince at El Valle at 3500 ft. (1060 m).
