Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F). I grow it in warm bright filtered light in a southeast kitchen window. It likes to be kept on the moist (but not soggy) side.
Comments: Parent plant: This is an interesting plant with the pseudobulbs growing out of the top of the previous one. It will eventually form a clump of these stacked growths. The blooms sneak up on you from the sheaths at the base of the leaf at the top of each segment. Small plant.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.
This text is copyrighted by the Bakers and may not be reproduced without permission.
ORIGIN/HABITAT: Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and northern
South America. Plants are found on the Caribbean side of the Central
American Isthmus, growing in trees in low gallery forest. They have been
reported from as high as 4900 ft. (1500 m), but the descriptions of the
plants from higher elevations seem to be for Hexisea imbricata. In
Colombia, Hexisea bidentata reportedly grows in warm to temperate
climates, but Hexisea imbricata is found only in temperate climates.
Many sources also include Mexico and Guatemala as habitat, but we did not
find specific habitat information for collections in either country. Wiard
(1987) reported "H. imbricata is the sole member of the genus native to
Mexico."
