Comments: Encyclia chiapasensis, a native of Southern Mexico, is one of the larger encyclias with broad 12" leaves. The branched inflorescence can reach almost 2m (6 feet), with many attractive unscented flowers scattered along its length. It will continue to produce flowers from the tips of the main flower stalk and branches repeatedly for up to two years. According to Carl Withner, it is "a champion of the successive blooming habit." Needs strong light to bloom. This plant was originally discovered at 950m in Chiapas by David Hunt and George Norris back in 1986.

Parent plant: Large plant.
