ORIGIN/HABITAT: Widespread across Southeast Asia from the Himalayan region near Dehra Dun in northern India eastward into China. Distribution includes Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, northeast India, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaya, Sumatra, and Borneo. Throughout the habitat in India, these plants grow in the subtropical zone at 4900-6550 ft. (1500-2000 m). Although plants have been found in almost all climatic zones in Thailand, the majority of the collections were made in the northern mountains at 3300-5250 ft. (1000-1600 m). Collections in the other zones in Thailand were mostly at 1950-4250 ft. (600-1300 m). In Laos, plants were found between Phong Saly and M. Sing at 3950 ft. (1200 m). In Vietnam, collections have been made at several locations, mostly at 3300-3600 ft. (1000-1100 m). In southwest China, plants grow on trees and rocks in sparse forest at 2950-6900 ft. (900-2100 m). In Malaya, where this orchid has been found only once, it was found in the Genting Highlands of Pahang Province at 5900-6250 ft. (1800-1900 m). In Borneo, plants are found in the hill and lower mountain forests of Kalimantan and Sabah at 2950-4900 ft. (900-1500 m).
