The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad, and Venezuela.
These plants were first described as coming from near Bogotá in the
Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. Plants were growing on ruins and on top of
walls at about 2300 ft. (700 m). In Venezuela, Dunsterville & Dunsterville
(1988) reported that these plants were once plentiful in the valley around
Caracas at about 3000 ft. (910 m) but have slowly disappeared as their
habitat has been destroyed by the expanding city. Dunsterville & Garay
(1961) report that plants grow in fairly open trees at (100–500 m) along
the road from Puerto la Cruz to Cumanacoa as well as being rather
widespread in other areas with strong dry seasons. Dressler (1993) reports
these plants as growing in the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica and Panama.
Plants have also been reported from Trinidad, but details of the habitat
location and elevation were not given.
