The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. The habitat includes portions of the states of São
Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais. The habitat extends from near São
Paulo northward to the vicinity of Passos and westward to the region
around Bauru. Plants grow at 2000-3000 ft. (610-910 m) along the Rio
Grande, Rio Tiete, Rio Pardo, and Rio Feo, and in the swampy regions near
the headwaters of these streams. Plants are also found in swampy areas of
the headwaters of the Rio Paraiba in southeastern São Paulo. The habitats
of Cattleya loddigesii and Cattleya harrisoniana Bateman come together in
this region, and intergrades between these 2 species are often found.
