ORIGIN/HABITAT: Widespread from Belize in Central America southward
through Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama. Distribution extends through
Jamaica and the islands of the Caribbean southward from Jamaica through
Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and into South America where plants
are found in Guyana, Surinam, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia,
and Brazil. In Honduras, plants are found on the Caribbean watershed in
the northeastern part of the country at about 2000 ft. (610 m). In Costa
Rica, plants have been found in the provinces of Cartago and Heredia at
about 1650 ft. (500 m). In Panama, collections have been made in Chiriquí
Province as well as in Bocas del Toro and the Canal Zone. In Puerto Rico,
this orchid is rather uncommon but is found in numerous locations around
the island where it grow as an epiphyte on shrubs and small trees in wet
regions, frequently in disturbed sites, from near sea level to 2950 ft.
(900 m). In Venezuela, plants have been found in the Federal District near
Caracas and in the Parque Nac. Guatopo in the state of Miranda. In
Ecuador, plants have been found in many locations on both the eastern and
westerns slopes of the Andes at 350-3450 ft. (100-1050 m), with numerous
collections on the eastern slopes near Puyo at 2600-3450 ft. (800-1050 m).
In Peru, plants have been found at several locations on the eastern slopes
of the Andes where they were growing in wet mountain forests and were
commonly found as epiphytes on citrus and guava trees. In the department
of Junín, collections have been made near Satipo at 2600 ft. (800 m) as
well as near San Ramon. Plants have also been found near Tingo María in
the department of Huánuco, near Tarapoto and Moyobamba in the department
