The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. Plants are found in the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, and possibly eastern Rio de Janeiro. The habitat is centered around the Rio Doce and its tributaries. Plants are found at 350-650 ft. (100-200 m) on trees which grow on steep slopes and rock faces along the streams where they are protected from frequent fires. However, plants are occasionally found on rocks, and they have been reported from elevations to 2600 ft. (800 m). The species described by Pabst as Cattleya silvana has since been determined to be only a synonym of Cattleya warneri. However, it is a darker colored and better formed variety. This habitat is found in Bahia near the headwaters of the Rio Pardo, further north than any other population of the species.
