Etymology of trifoliata   From Latin "trifoliatus" three-leaved. In the genus Coryanthes, it refers to the 3-leafed pseudobulbs of the type specimen, but this characteristic is not species-typical and it occurs occasionally in all of the different Coryanthes species. (Source: Baker's Web OSC)

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Peru. The species is only reported from Peru with collections reported from the department of Loreto where plants were growing near Iquitos at 350 ft. (100 m).
