Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). I grow this species bareroot mounted on cork in a greenhouse in bright light but not direct sun, with winter temps as low as 50°F and summer temps as high as 100°F. Good humidity at all times, dry between waterings.
Comments: Parent plant: One of the most spectacular of the genus, Encyclia fowliei wasn't discovered until 1989. It is a native of the state of Bahia in Brazil. The large 5 cm (2 inch) flowers are unique in the Encyclia genus for their tessellations of red/brown venation on the sepals and very wide petals. The bulbs and leaves generally have a maroon tint in adequate light. Contrary to the five-to-six flowers per inflorescence in the description by Withner, this particular plant produced 16 buds on a branched spike (it did blast about half of them however). Medium-sized plant.
