Pod Parent Flower

Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Cold hardy to at least freezing, and probably several degrees below that. Can be carried through cold dormancy in the refrigerator very easily. Grown in a very well drained organic mix with some moss as a top dressing. Bright conditions with several hours of full sun each day. Almost no water in the spring until the flower is open and the leaf has started to unfurl. After the leaf is up, water well. Don't water as the leaf dies, and don't water through winter dormancy.

Comments: Parent plant: Small but large-bulbed plant.

Flask Information
Availability: We have sold all of the flasks for this item.
You should: Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask.
You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.

You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.

You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had.
Yield Estimate: 270 plants (based on flask surveys done 05/20/2005 )
Yield estimates are only approximate, but may appear to be fairly exact numbers because they are a combination of large rough estimates in remaining mother flasks and more accurate small estimates in reflasks.
Plantlet Sizes: From many flasks 20 - 70 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 05/19/2006 )
From one most recently surveyed flask 20 - 70 mm (05/19/2006)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Southern China at 2952-11,808 ft. (900-3600 m). The widespread plants often grow under rhododendron shrubs in deep leaf litter. They reportedly grow in profusion at Ta-Li, an area of open pine forests, where the Pleione are usually found on rapidly draining banks and ridges.
