Pod Parent Blooming Plant

Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F). Like most of its cousins this fellow resents root disturbance. Try a basket with slow-to-breakdown media like aliflor, tree fern, charcoal, coarse sponge rock. I throw in a bit of sphagnum just to get things started.

Comments: Parent plant: This species is said to be a more compact form of sesquipedale. My plant is only about 12" high. Flowers open flat, white fades to yellow as they age. Usual wonderful angraecoid-type nighttime fragrance.

For additional origin/habitat information supplied courtesy of Charles and Margaret Baker, see further below, near the bottom of this page.

Flask Information
Availability: We have sold all of the flasks for this item.
You should: Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask.
You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.

You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.

You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had.
Yield Estimate: 716 plants (based on flask surveys done 09/23/2004 through 05/25/2007)
Yield estimates are only approximate, but may appear to be fairly exact numbers because they are a combination of large rough estimates in remaining mother flasks and more accurate small estimates in reflasks.
Plantlet Sizes: From many flasks 0.3 - 65 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 09/23/2004 through 09/11/2007)
From one most recently surveyed flask 30 - 50 mm (09/11/2007)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Madagascar. Hillerman & Holst (1986) reported that this orchid is found in southern Madagascar in the same area as Angraecum eburneum Bory subsp. xerophilum H. Perrier, which is found found among rocks in semiarid conditions in the transitional area between the moist east coast and the dry south. However, a subsequent collection was reported from the north near Antsiranana (at Lat. 14.4S, Long. 49.7E). Plants were found at 6250-7000 ft. (1900-2133 m).
