ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador and Peru, at 2050-3608 ft. (625-1100 m). In the Tingo Maria area, it grows in the valleys between high ridges on southwest-facing slopes with constant water seepage. In other areas, plants are also found growing on grassy, sparsely bushy clay slopes and in rich black loam at the jungles edge.
