Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: This particular plant grows in a temperature range from 55°F - 100°F depending upon the time of the year. It is mounted on a bark slab and prefers to dry out a bit between waterings.
Comments: Encyclia bracteata is one of the smallest species of the genus and one of the most charming. It is a native of Brazil. The distinctive, long-lasting 1"+ flowers, generally only one per inflorescence, are scented and have a brightly colored purple/red lip. It blooms in the late spring/summer in the Northern Hemisphere. A unique and very worthwhile encyclia, perfect for cultivation especially where space may be a problem.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. Few details pertaining to the habitat of this
orchid have been reported. Pabst and Dungs (1975) indicated that it is
found in the states of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais, where it grows in
both the wet, coastal mountains and the drier plains and savannas of the
interior. Based on Pabst and Dungs, we estimated the probable habitat
elevation as being under 3300 ft. (1000 m), but this is far from a
certainty. Growers should, therefore, use the following climate table and
cultural suggestions somewhat cautiously until more accurate information
becomes available.
