Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F)
Comments: Parent plant: As is so common for Stanhopea plants I have received, this was mis-tagged. The tag said Stanhopea avicula, which it certainly is not, but at least that is a clue since avicula is from Panama. I believe this plant to be Stanhopea panamensis based on the flower morphology alone, and this is borne out by the likelihood that it came from Panama. The strong fragrance is unlike any other Stanhopea that I know, a pleasant root beer scent, or perhaps a little richer, like a root-beer float. Medium-sized plant.

Flask Information |
Availability: |
We have sold all of the flasks for this item. |
You should: |
Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask. You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.
You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.
You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had. |
Yield Estimate: |
585 plants (based on flask surveys done 07/21/2003 through 03/01/2005)
|
Plantlet Sizes: |
From many flasks 4 - 100 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 02/04/2004 through 06/22/2005)
From one most recently surveyed flask 45 - 70 mm (06/22/2005)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Panama and Colombia. Plants were originally found growing
on trees in moist mistforests around Cero Campana, approximately 50 miles
(80 km) south of Panama City, at 2950 ft. (900 m). S. panamensis was
originally thought to be endemic to Panama, but plants have since been
reported in Colombia. The species was known and discussed prior to 1983,
but it was not formally described until 1988.
