Encyclia plicata 'MC1910' × self

Name: Encyclia plicata 'MC1910' × self
Type: self    (What's that?)
Seed Donor: Carol J. Watson  (Email: CJWatson@cox.net)

Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). The plant is growing in aliflor in a small clay pot just big enough to hold the roots. Dry rest in the winter, and warm to hot temperatures and very bright light all year. Encyclia plicata can also be grown successfully bare-root mounted on cork or in baskets. Easy grower if you don't overwater it.

Comments: Encyclia plicata is sometimes mistaken for Encyclia phoenicia in appearance, but the strong sweet fragrance rather than the chocolate scent of the phoenicia is the best way to tell them apart. Encyclia plicata is native to drier areas of Cuba and the Bahamas, usually growing at sea level in small trees or on the porous limestone rock beneath. It blooms in the summer, with sprays of good sized eye-catching apple green flowers splashed with maroon and a white lip with an intense crimson center.

Parent plant: Medium-sized plant.
