The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.
This text is copyrighted by the Bakers and may not be reproduced without permission.
ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, and the Guyanas. In
Ecuador, plants grow in wet forests in Morona-Santiago Province at
2600–3600 ft. (800–1100 m). In Peru, they are found on the eastern slopes
of the Andes at several locations. Schweinfurth (1958–1961) reported
collections in the Department of San Martín near Moyobamba at 3950–5250
ft. (1200–1600 m). More recently w3 Tropicos (2000) shows collections
further south in the Department of Pasco at 4100 ft. (1250 m), and in the
Department of Puno at 1500–1650 ft. (450–500 m). In Brazil, Pabst & Dungs
(1975) indicated that plants are found in the hot, humid lowlands in the
States of Amazonas and Pará, but they provided no information about
specific habitat location or elevation. In Venezuela, this orchid has been
collected near the Brazilian border in the State of Bolívar and near the
confluence of the Río Apacará and Río Caroní at 1500 ft. (450 m).
