The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. Originally found in Ferromeco Province, northwest
of Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, this species is now known to occur
in the cool, moist mountains in the States of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo,
Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. Habitat elevations are not
available, but topographical maps show that elevations are fairly low in
the area of the original discovery. Because of the missing data, the
following climate table is based on an estimated elevation, so the
resulting temperatures should be used somewhat cautiously until actual
habitat locations and elevations are known.
