ORIGIN/HABITAT: Borneo and the Philippines. In Borneo, most writers
indicate distribution includes Sabah and Sarawak, with plants growing in
hill forests and lower mountain forests at 1950—4900 ft. (600-1500 m).
Beaman, Wood, Beaman and Beaman (2001), in their Orchids of Sarawak, do
not include this species as occurring there. The named variety,
Spathoglottis kimballiana var. angustifolia Ames occurs in the Philippines
on Luzon and Panay Islands and on the Sibuyan Islands in the Visayas where
it grows as a terrestrial at about 1000 ft. (300 m), but the species is
reported not to occur in the Philippines. (It is reported that the only
distinguishing feature of this variety is that is has narrower leaves.)
