Comments: Parent plant: Easy grower and bloomer. This one has odd splashes on the end of the petals. Perhaps a bit peloric? Small plant.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil. Cattleya forbesii was once a common epiphyte in
the coastal swamps and riverside forests from east of Rio de Janeiro to
southwest of São Paulo. However, clearing land for agriculture has
severely depleted the population. Plants are now found in small numbers in
widely scattered locations that have not been cleared. The habitat lies in
a narrow band almost parallel to the coast, and plants are seldom found
very far inland. They normally grow at elevations below 150 ft. (50 m) in
very shady conditions on the lower limbs of spreading trees. They are
found in areas where rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year
and humidity is always very high. Visitors to the habitat report that the
trees on which Cattleya forbesii grows are draped with Spanish moss and
heavily laden with wet moss, lichens, bromeliads, philodendrons,
tendrillike lianas, and other epiphytes.
