Pod Parent Blooming Plant |

Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F)
Comments: Parent plant: An evergreen Dendrobium, this plant enjoys water year-round. Cut back some on water and fertilizer especially during the coldest times. I put it in the coolest part of the greenhouse (50-55°F) for several weeks to a month. The plant blooms in late spring - early summer. My plant produces 3 blooms/stem and the blooms are enormous. Five-inch blooms on most kinds of orchids are great but on a Dendrobium they're totally unexpected and absolutely gorgeous. I forgot to note the fragrance but it's there, which is another plus (in my book) for dendrobiums. Medium-sized plant.

Flask Information |
Availability: |
We have sold all of the flasks for this item. |
You should: |
Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask. You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.
You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.
You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had. |
Yield Estimate: |
614 plants (based on flask surveys done 08/20/2008 through 03/10/2010)
|
Plantlet Sizes: |
From many flasks 0.2 - 65 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 07/03/2008 through 09/20/2010)
From one most recently surveyed flask 30 - 65 mm (09/20/2010)

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Widespread in the forests of Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, and
northeastern India, including Assam and the Khasi (Khasia) Hills. The
habitat extends across the mountain regions of Burma and northern Thailand
to Dalat, Vietnam. Plants grow at about 4900 ft. (1500 m) in northeastern
India and at 6550-7550 ft. (2000-2300 m) in northern Thailand. However,
plants known as D. formosum var. giganteum, a warm growing,
larger-flowered variety, grow at low elevations in India and the Ranong
Region of southwestern Thailand.
