Flask Information |
Availability: |
We have sold all of the flasks for this item. |
You should: |
Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask. You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.
You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.
You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had. |
Yield Estimate: |
2320 plants (based on flask surveys done 03/13/2008 through 06/15/2011)
|
Plantlet Sizes: |
From many flasks 5 - 80 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 03/20/2008 through 01/04/2012)
From one most recently surveyed flask 60 - 80 mm (01/04/2012)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Costa Rica, northern Colombia, and probably Panama. Plants
grow on very tall trees, usually in bright, filtered light on large
branches high in the crown of the tree or on bright spots on branches
which overhang water. They are found at about 4600 ft. (1400 m), usually
on mountain slopes which face the Caribbean. When first discovered in
Costa Rica, however, plants were said to grow on the Pacific slopes. The
habitat of the unifoliate Cattleyas in Colombia is described by Arango, in
Native orchids of Colombia volume 1, as follows. "They grow on the
mountainsides from 600 to 1600 m. above sea level, in spots where a
constant breeze blows, the nights are cool but the midday sun is warm. In
the early morning the forests are covered by mist because of the high
humidity but later there is abundant sunshine; it rains often, almost
daily, and in the so-called dry seasons a heavy dew moistens the orchid
roots clinging to tree branches or spread over rocks."
