The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Widespread on islands of the southwest Pacific. Plants
grow on Bougainville, Guadalcanal, Santa Isabel, the Santa Cruz Islands,
Vanuatu, and in Papua New Guinea on Rossel and Misima Islands in the
Louisiade Archipelago. On Misima, plants grow on moss-covered branches,
twigs, and rocks in areas with a dense groundcover of mosses, begonias,
ferns, and small creepers. Collections were made on the steep ridge of a
forested gully at about 3100 ft. (950 m). Reports from other parts of the
habitat indicate that plants grow at 1200-7700 ft. (360-2340 m). They
usually grow in thick moss near the base of trees, on moss covered
saplings, or in deep lichen and moss on the trunks of elfin forest trees
in areas normally saturated with cold mist or light rain with brief bursts
of very hot sunshine.
