Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range C (52-70°F)
Comments: Parent plant: This species is difficult to induce to bloom as it requires very cool and bright conditions to grow well and initiate inflorescences. After buds become visible, moving the plant to warmer temperatures seems to ensure that the buds don't blast. Imaged flower is 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) across.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico in the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero. Williams
(1951) reported that these plants are known only from the mountains near
the city of Oaxaca. Hágsater (1973), however, reported that this orchid is
found in the wild at 8000-9000 ft. (2440-2740 m) near the tops of
Pacific-facing ridges in the Sierra Madre del Sur. He reported that this
habitat is swept throughout the year by cool, humid winds. He also
reported that in the past this orchid was found extensively on the Cerro
San Felipe above the city of Oaxaca, but over-collecting has caused its
near extinction in that area. A collection from the Cerro Teotepec in the
State of Guerrero also has been reported. Hágsater & Salazar (1990)
reported that plants are found in evergreen cloudforests at elevations as
high as 10,150 ft. (3100 m) but only rarely as low as 7850 ft. (2400 m)
