ORIGIN/HABITAT: Western Mexico. Plants occur over a very large area in the
Sierra Madre Occidental and the southern part of the Central Plateau with
the habitat extending from southern Sonora and Chihuahua through Durango,
Sinaloa, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Querétaro. Plants grow on
oaks and other trees in open, deciduous, often very dry forests at
4600–6550 ft. (1400–2000 m). In Michoacán, Jalisco, and Durango, plants
share the same dry habitat with Laelia speciosa.
