Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: I grow my plant warm to hot (Low of 75°F; high of 90°F+). I grow my plant under 60% shade cloth here near the equator (18°N)... I can grow cattleyas at 60% shade as well. The plant is mounted and I water at least 4 times a week and fertilize every other week. Given my climate, my plants do not go into rest phase, even when supposed to. It has been my luck that although this Dendrobium is a spring flowering species, it blooms for me in spring and fall. The flowers are extremely fragrant. (I have found that Orchids have an annoying habit of not reading the books that describe what they are supposed to do.)

Comments: Parent plant: The plant was acquired under the name Dendrobium superbum 'Burkei'. Flowers were sent to OIC at Mary Selby Botanical Garden (OIC number 13746) where it was determined that although Dendrobium anosmum Lindl. it was not 'Burkei'.
The plant has a semi-pendulous habit; canes are not as big as the type of the species (largest cane in my plant was 26 inches) and they are not as thick as the type (thickest point in my plant is 1/3 inch diameter). Flowers are borne two per node and are crystalline white with dark velvety purple in the lip's throat. Overall Size of flowers is 1 to 2 inches.

Temperatures we attempt to use in the lab & greenhouse:
For Species:   Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter: days average 82°F, nights 64°F; best fit is Intermediate 83-60°F (Source: Baker's Web OSC)
