Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: The plant is grown in temperatures ranging from a minimum of 60°F in winter to a high of over 100°F in summer. It is potted in a fine bark/sponge rock mix and given bright light, but no direct Florida sun.
Comments: Encyclia oestlundii is a small species with branched spikes of attractive lightly-scented 2 cm flowers. Their native habitat is the dry coastal areas of Mexico. The species is named after Karl Oestlund, a Swedish engineer working in Mexico who retired there in 1928 and spent the rest of his life studying and collecting Mexican orchids, at the time having the largest single collection of them in the world, which was later donated to Oakes Ames Orchid Herbarium at Harvard University.
Parent plant: Small plant.
