ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico. Plants are found on the lower Pacific slopes in
the states of Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Guerrero. They usually
grow somewhat inland at 250-1950 ft. (80-600 m), but they are sometimes
found as high as 4250 ft. (1300 m). The orchid grows on trees in
high-elevation forests, in deciduous and thorn forests, and on shrubs in
savannas. B. palmeri has been found at many locations in this region.
Following are only a few of the reported collection sites: East of Puerto
Vallarta; about 20 mi. (32 km) south of Compostela, which is just south of
Tepic; between Tomatlán and Río San Nicolás; in the savannas southeast of
Colima; and 5-6 mi. (8-10 km) from Colima toward Manzanillo.
