The origin/habitat information below is supplied courtesy of Charles and Margaret Baker

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico. Plants are found on the lower Pacific slopes in the states of Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Guerrero. They usually grow somewhat inland at 250-1950 ft. (80-600 m), but they are sometimes found as high as 4250 ft. (1300 m). The orchid grows on trees in high-elevation forests, in deciduous and thorn forests, and on shrubs in savannas. B. palmeri has been found at many locations in this region. Following are only a few of the reported collection sites: East of Puerto Vallarta; about 20 mi. (32 km) south of Compostela, which is just south of Tepic; between Tomatlán and Río San Nicolás; in the savannas southeast of Colima; and 5-6 mi. (8-10 km) from Colima toward Manzanillo.
