Pollen Parent Blooming Plant

Culture Notes from Donor: Pod parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). These seem to love growing on a mount. They like plenty of water and bright light, along with good humidity. It can take temperatures of 90 degrees and above, but the optimum should be less than this.
Pollen parent plant: Temperature range W (70-90°F). Requires lots of water and warm temperatures when in active growth but should be kept dry if the temperature goes below 60°F. This species is reportedly hard to grow and flower and is prone to rot. I grow mine mounted horizontally and it receives bright light.

Comments: Pod parent plant: Small plant.

Pollen parent plant: This moderate-sized species, with thickened leaves and very small pseudobulbs, comes from Ecuador and Northern Peru. It has been reported to be difficult to grow and bloom, but my plant has faithfully flowered every year. Fragrant with the smell of dusty raspberries on a hot day.

Flask Information
Availability: We have sold all of the flasks for this item.
You should: Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask.
You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.

You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.

You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had.
Yield Estimate: 150 plants (based on flask surveys done 07/07/2003 )
Yield estimates are only approximate, but may appear to be fairly exact numbers because they are a combination of large rough estimates in remaining mother flasks and more accurate small estimates in reflasks.
Plantlet Sizes: From many flasks 15 - 45 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 11/24/2003 )
From one most recently surveyed flask 15 - 45 mm (11/24/2003)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Ecuador and Peru. In southwestern Ecuador, this orchid is found in tropical dry forests at 650-2300 ft. (200-700 m) in the Province of Guayas near Vacas Muertas and in the Province of Manabi near Monticristi and Barbosmonte. Plants have also been collected in northern Peru, near the border with Ecuador, where they were growing near Ayabaca in the Department of Piura.
