The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico southward through Central America and into South
America to as far south as Peru. In Mexico, plants are reported from the
state of Chiapas, but details for habitat location and elevation were not
reported. Collections have been made at several locations in Guatemala,
again without specific details reported. In Panama, plants have been found
in Chiriquí Province at 3950 and 5900 ft. (1200 and 1800 m) and in Coclé
Province at 3300 ft. (1000 m). In Peru, specimens have been found in the
department of Amazonas and near Leoncio Prado in the department of Huánuco
at about 4900 ft. (1500 m). Plants grow in cloudforests or wet montane
forests.
