ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, and eastern South America from Venezuela to Argentina. This is the most common and widespread of the Isochilus species. It may grow on the surface of the ground or attached to rocks, fallen logs, or trees. Plants grow in dense, mixed forests or mountain rainforests and collections are reported from near sea level to as high as about 6550 ft. (0–2000 m). Most plants, however, are found at 3300-6550 ft. (1000-2000 m).
