Flask Information |
Availability: |
We have sold all of the flasks for this item. |
You should: |
Consider getting individual plants or compots instead of a flask. You can place a "Notify Flask Recipients" Request, and either we or a flask recipient may contact you when plants are available.
You may also place a "Notify Retries" Request, and if an identical pollination (the same parents) is done again, we'll let you know.
You may reserve a flask, but it's very unlikely you'll get one ...this could only happen if we found a flask that we didn't know we had. |
Yield Estimate: |
560 plants (based on flask surveys done 10/28/2004 through 10/04/2006)
|
Plantlet Sizes: |
From many flasks 2 - 60 mm plants (based on flask surveys done 07/07/2004 through 10/02/2007)
From one most recently surveyed flask 20 - 35 mm (10/02/2007)

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Central Brazil. Plants are found only in areas along
tributaries of the Rio Sao Francisco in northern Minas Gerais, western
Bahia, and Pernambuco. Plants normally grow on rocks in fully exposed
situations along semipermanent watercourses, usually on large, somewhat
horizontal sandstone surfaces. They are found at 800-3500 ft. (250-1070 m)
near water falls, seepages, or low on the banks near the river itself, but
they are more common at 2000-3000 ft. (610-910 m). At the lower
elevations, plants are found only on rocky cliffs along larger streams and
rivers. Plants may also be found growing epiphytically on lower branches
of the occasional trees which grow in the area. The reddish tipped roots
are not numerous but may grow 1-4 ft. (30-122 cm) long to reach deposits
of sand, pebbles and decayed twigs and leaves caught in cracks and
depressions in the rock. Visitors to the habitat report that these
deposits remain moist for long periods, even in the dry season, providing
the plants with an almost constant source of moisture.
