Incoming seed is examined to determine embryo count to help decide how much seed should be sown, and/or which capsule would be the best to sow. Permanent sample slides are also prepared. Each separate package of seed is examined because these are generally from separate capsules, which is what we request from our donors.

The material was received in a sealed plastic vial.
Capsule had split and its contents have made contact with its exterior, material sifted to remove debris. Fine particles of mineral soil in sample remain mixed in with seed.
Seed is golden to the naked eye, and somewhat fluffy. Medium sized seeds are windsock shaped, somewhat curved, and have medium sized elongated brown embryos toward the pointed end which are 1/2 the length of the seed when present.
