ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.
In Mexico, plants are reported from the States of Chiapas and Veracruz.
They are usually found at 1950-6250 ft. (600-1900 m), but plants have been
found as low as 1150 ft. (350 m) near Minatitlán in Veracruz State. In
Mexico, plants grow as on trees in open woodlands or in shady canyons.
Plants identified as Oncidium hintonii L. O. Williams from the Pacific
slopes in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, and Guerrero were
discussed by McVaugh (1985). These plants grow in sparse oak forest or in
tropical, deciduous forest at 3300-3950 ft. (1000-1200 m). In Guatemala,
plants grow in forests at up to 6550 ft. (2000 m). In other regions, they
are found in wet, lower mountain forests. In Nicaragua, plants are found
in Jinotega in wet mountain forests at 3600 ft. (1100 m). In El Salvador
plants are found on Volcán Chingo at 3300-3950 ft. (1000-1200 m).
