Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F). This plant is kept in a south-southeast facing window and receives light for most of the day. During summer months it is placed in the yard (Pennsylvania), where it receives light in the morning and late in the afternoon. It receives near full sunlight, and is only protected from the noonday sun.

Comments: Parent plant: Medium-sized plant. This plant has a vanda-like habit. It grows very tall in nature, but, can be kept to about 2 feet in cultivation. It produces an inflorescence about two feet long that has several short branches basally.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, the Philippines. On Taiwan, this orchid is found at low elevations in broad-leaved forests throughout the island. Although reported as occurring in the Philippines, because of the rather confusing synonymy, we are uncertain as to whether or not the plants described as originating in the Philippines were actually Staurochilus luchuensis or Staurochilus ionosma (Lindley) Schlechter, the plant with which it was considered at one time to be synonymous.
