ORIGIN/HABITAT: Central America from southern Mexico to Costa Rica. In Guatemala, this rare orchid has been found on the Pacific-facing slopes near Chuikabal in the department of Quezaltenango. Plants grow as epiphytes on tree trunks in humid forests or open dry regions, usually at elevations below 3300 ft. (1000 m). In Costa Rica, plants grow as epiphytes in deep shade in very moist sites, usually on small branches. They are found in tropical rainforest at 2600-3300 ft. (800-1000 m) on both the Pacific and Caribbean slopes.
