ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil, in the extreme northeast. Plants are found in the hot, humid lowlands around Recife in the state of Pernambuco. They usually grow on shrubs and small trees in coastal swamps which are flooded during the rainy season. Collections in the states of Paraíba and Ceará have also been reported, but specific habitat information was not given.
