ORIGIN/HABITAT: Distributed in the Aegean Region, principally in the
Cyclades and the arc formed by Crete, Karpathos, Rhodes, and southwest
Anatolia. Plants, which are local and rather rare, grow in full sun to
partial shade on calcareous substrates and are found in grasslands, olive
groves, and open pine forests at up to 3300 ft. (1000 m).
