The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: New Guinea. This orchid is widespread on the island, both
in Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya. It grows on trees in montane forests
at 2950-6550 ft. (900-2000 m), but plants reportedly grow as high as 8200
ft. (2500 m). This orchid and other members of the genus Mediocalcar are
successfully cultivated at the Highland Orchid Collection in Laiagam,
Papua New Guinea, which is at 7200 ft. (2200 m). It also grows in the Mt.
Gahavisuka Provincial Park near Goroka in Eastern Highlands Province.
