ORIGIN/HABITAT: Although this extremely variable orchid has been reported as being common throughout the American tropics from Mexico southward to Trinidad and Venezuela, Dressler (1989) reported that Epidendrum ibaguense is native only to Colombia and Venezuela, and possibly extreme northern Brazil. This confusion in distribution is the result of the long-term confusion that existed between Epidendrum ibaguense and Epidendrum radicans. In Venezuela, Dunsterville & Garay (1961) reported that plants have been found on the road between Salom and Temerla where they were growing on bare, dry, exposed northern slopes of almost soiless rock at about 4000 ft. (1220 m) as well as on the road to Choroní at 4000-5000 ft. (1220-1520 m) in much damper conditions.
