Culture Notes from Donor: Should be grown in a pot containing well-drained humus, and given light to moderate shade.
Parent plant: Temperature range I (60-83°F)

Comments: The species is a close match for the New Guinea species C. orthocentron, which in turn may be nothing more than a small form of C. triplicata. The species is fairly small, with a rosette of 3-6 leaves up to 30 cm long, and an inflorescence up to 50 cm tall. The raceme bears up to 15 well-spaced flowers (not all opening at once) that are white with yellow calli, and have a short hairy spur.

Parent plant: This terrestrial species is common in Central Sulawesi, growing in riverine forest at about 1100 metres altitude. This parent is representative of the plants in the area.

About the name...
Etymology of aff.   An abbreviation of the latin word "affinis," it indicates that the plant resembles the mentioned species. This could be because it is the species or is closely related to it. (Source: Troy Meyers)
Etymology of Calanthe   From Greek "kalos" beautiful; "anthe" flower. (Source: Pridgeon 1992)
Etymology of sp.   An abbreviation of the word "species," it indicates that based on the provenance of the plant it is believed to be naturally occurring, but the identity is as yet undetermined. (Source: Troy Meyers)
Pronunciation of Calanthe   ka-LAN-thee (Source: Pridgeon 1992)
Pronunciation of sp.   Here, we say "spuh" rather than "species" to convey without explanation that it's an unidentified species. (Source: Troy Meyers)
