The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Colombia and Ecuador. In Colombia, plants are found in the Western Cordillera from the Department of Antioquia southward to the border with Ecuador. In Antioquia, they grow in several locations at 7850-8550 ft. (2400-2600 m). Dracula iricolor grows on the western slopes in the Departments of Cauca and Risaralda at about 6550 ft. (2000 m), but on the eastern slopes, they are found east of San Francisco near the intendencia or government house for Putumayo at about 9200 ft. (2800 m). In Ecuador, plants grow in the northwest Province of Carchí in the cloudforest above Maldonado at about 6550-7600 ft. (2000-2500 m) and in Pichincha Province in forest above Tandapi at 6250 ft. (1900 m).
