Culture Notes from Donor: Pod parent plant: Temperature range Intermediate 83-60°F, cooler season Cool 70-52°F. Potted in medium fir bark, horticultural charcoal, #3 sponge rock, 4:1:1. Easy to grow, pest-free, likes bright light, intermediate to cool temps, water and fertilize frequently during growth, keep drier in winter. Plant becomes top-heavy with age, so stabilize bottom of pot with rocks. Staking of canes will help with flower display in spring. Can grow outside in coastal southern and northern California, protected from rain.
Comments: Pod parent plant: Striking black bamboo-like canes are attractive even when plant is out of bloom. Plant can reach over 5 feet in height in cultivation. Native to Yunnan Province in southern China on tree trunks in forests or on exposed rocks along valleys at elevations of 200 to 1600 m as a medium to large- sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte. Bright yellow flowers are fragrant of honey. Very floriferous on branching canes that rebloom.
