The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Southern Mexico southward through Guatemala, Honduras, El
Salvador, and Nicaragua. Plants are reported from Colombia and Brazil, but
we have not found details of habitat location and elevation in those
regions. In Mexico, this orchid is found in the states of Chipas and
Veracruz, and possibly Michoacán, where it grows in rather wet, mixed
forests at 1300-5600 ft. (400-1700 m). In Guatemala, it is said to be
common throughout the highlands, and plants have been collected at
numerous locations where they were growing on trees in humid forests at up
to 5600 ft. (1700 m). In Nicaragua, plants grow in open oak forests and
in tropical deciduous forests on Volcano Mombacho at 3950 ft. (1200 m) and
near Matagalpa at 3300 ft. (1000 m). In El Salvador, plants have been
collected at 3300-3650 ft. (1000-1120 m).
