ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico southward through Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica to northern Panama. It is the most widely distributed of any of the Barkeria species. Throughout its range, plants grow at 1650-5600 ft. (500-1700 m). In Mexico, they are found in the States of Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, México, Michocán, Morelos, and Oaxaca. They usually grow on trees along canyon streams, but plants are reported to adapt to trees and shrubs along city streets. In Central America, plants are reported in hillside pastures with low growth, on low hills with scattered trees, and on rocky hillsides.
