ORIGIN/HABITAT: Mexico. This orchid is found only in northwestern Mexico.
It is endemic to the Pacific-facing foothills of the Sierra Madre
Occidental from central Nayarit to Durango and Sinaloa, with distribution
possibly extending into the deep gorges of southwest Chihuahua. This
region experiences hot summers with abundant rainfall and a long, sharply
defined dry season that extends from late autumn into spring. Plants
usually grow on trees in dry tropical forest at 350–1000 ft. (100–300 m).
In some ravines, however, plants grow on rocks or directly on the ground.
