The northern limit of its range then extends eastward across southern Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, to Maryland, with a narrow finger of distribution extending northeastward in the coastal regions to as far north as southern Massachusetts. Luer (1975) reported that, "This minute species is very difficult to see in its native habitat, which probably accounts for its presumed rarity. Plants grow on road shoulders, in grassy meadows and pastures, and in open woods.
