Culture Notes from Donor: Parent plant: It may be grown epiphytically or as a semi-terrestrial. Our plant bloomed in the cool house (minimum 42°F) along with the reed-stem hybrids from January until May and started again in July. It also does well in the intermediate house. The colors tend to be darker in the cooler temperatures and have more contrast.
Comments: Parent plant: This plant is a small-growing Epidendrum. Maximum height of the stem is under 18 inches. Flowers are small and are continuously produced on the stem over a long period.

The following information is based on the name of the plant provided by the donor, and assumes that the name is correct. If the plant has been misidentified, then the following information may not be correct.

ORIGIN/HABITAT: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. In Peru,
these plants have been found in the department of Huánuco near Leoncio
Prado above Tingo María at about 2600 ft. (800 m). In Bolivia, plants have
been found in northeastern Cochabamba near Chapare on the Río Cristal
Mayu. No other details were reported. Although described as occurring in
Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador, the name for plants discussed in the
literature from those regions is so mixed up with earlier synonymy that we
are not certain it is actually Epidendrum calanthum being discussed.
