Comments: The new species Gongora alfieana R. Rice was originally incompletely described in 1998 and redescribed in 2001.

Parent plant: Medium-sized Gongora with long chains of dark maroon flowers, the reverse side of the sepals lighter in coloration, creating an interesting contrast.
