I received this plant as a gift from a friend. It is part of a new breeding line of Rhynchostylis gigantea that arrived from Thailand that was expected to produce peach-colored flowers. In my case it did produce the peach color in a most interesting pattern as can be seens from the photo. Large plant. |
Donor's culture notes: |
Temperature range W (70-90°F). I grow all my Rhynchostylis gigantea in wood baskets, without any medium whatsoever. I allow the plants to dry between watering and fertilize with every watering (1/8 tsp. per gallon). During the month of September I drench all my plants with a solution of Epsom Salt ( 1 tbsp. per gallon; every other week of the month) and cut down on watering. When plant initiates inflorescence, I switch to a high phosphorus fertilizer and increase concentration to 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water.
My plants grow in high light conditions and are grown outside in Puerto Rico hanging from my mother's clothes lines in an area where the shade is equivalent to 41% shade cloth. |
